Requiem: For the Worlds That Have Already Ended

Requiem: For the Worlds That Have Already Ended

Council, Grief Ritual + Seed Planting

In light and dark of the myriad personal, ecological, and civilizational losses, we gather to move honestly together in recognition of what time’s sloshing has wrought. How many ancestral ways have been lost from every single one of our lineages? Specific and special customs, recipes, songs, stories? Innumerable languages, relationships, prayers? How many uniquely intricate ecologies of beings have been mowed under and paved over? How many innocents have been sucked into the meaningless drone of plasticized culture? How many intimate heartbreaks have cinched worlds of possibility for ourselves, our loved and unloved ones?

And yet, even still, seeds in the springtime, wet and in the dark, break for the light. So must we.

On Friday, April 12th from 6-9pm, we will meet around the fire in the Kirkja in North Boulder.

On Saturday, April 13th, we will gather from 3-10pm, mixing the ashes from our hearths and preparing the dark soil for each other’s tears and dream seeds, and then we will eat together, seeds planted in the dark. All you need is a sunlit window sill, water, and care to support life renewing itself with your honesty + presence. Sunday is from 10:45am-3 or 4pm. Specific locations will be made available as we establish numbers.

Bring: one relatively small special planting pot + some of the ashes from your winter hearth, perhaps also a journal and a contribution for the meal on Saturday evening.

We also require that you not sleep alone that night, so either plan to sleep over + bring a sleeping pad, or arrange to have a sleepover. This is work best accompanied.

On Sunday, April 14th, we will dance at Melissa Michael’s 5Rhythms Movement Mass, weaving the medicine of the prayer into the larger community.

To RSVP, send a message to weaver@themysteryworks.com with “Requiem” in the subject line before April 5th to receive further instructions for ritual preparation.
